Mary Katrantzou Fall Winter 2011 – FASHION IS ART

I’m not one who fancy plain designs, in fact, I love loud and bold designs, especially the ones by Mary Katrantzou.

The exuberant influx of bold colours and graphical lines with play of matt and metallic fabrics makes this collection of hers one of my favorite shows in the fall.winter 2011 season.

Her strong usage of prints along with embroidery, metallic zippers and pop-out 3D elements is definitely one of the most ingenious innovation I’ve seen in all the shows.

Plus, the collection is not just a straightforward “I’m inspired by so  & so… “, the collection is a beautiful incarnation of the Fabergé eggs, Meissen porcelain, cloisonné enamel, and Ming vase with the silhouettes of the dresses being modeled after such shapes, more notably the ‘lampshade’ shape. Most importantly, the highly structural skirts make way for the beautifully crafted prints to be showcased and paraded in it’s fullest extent.  With this, she has undoubtedly proved one thing; fashion itself is art, no doubt about it.

Definitely one designer to watch out for!
